There are two approaches to recovering your Outlook.com password. If you allow your browser
to remember passwords for you, you can look at the saved passwords in its settings. If not
, you can’t really “recover” it, but you can reset it. Choose the “Forgot password?” link
on the password entry page and you’ll be led through a verification process which, when
successful, will allow you to set a new password
When you attempt to recover a Microsoft account, you’re required to prove that you are
authorized to access it. If that were not the case, anyone could gain access to your
account at any time. The proof required starts with the recovery information you’ve
configured prior to losing access. If that recovery information is no longer current —
say a phone number you no longer have access to — then you may be required to provide
additional information for review. The bottom line, though, is that without being able to
adequately prove you are the rightful account holder, you will not be allowed back in.
This is important account security for everyone.
