Although China Refrigerator Manufacturer's refrigerator leak may be a mess, a simple repair usually solves the problem. What should you do if your refrigerator is leaking? Check the water pipe to make sure it is properly tightened and not damaged. Learn how to prevent the refrigerator from leaking with these troubleshooting tips.
Is the refrigerator leaking?
This is the way to stop leaks at the source.
Although professional services are sometimes required, when your refrigerator leaks, DIY repairs may solve the problem. The following is a method to determine the source of refrigerator leakage and the correct solution.
1-The refrigerator water pipe is leaking
The water pipe of the refrigerator is a long and thin flexible pipe connected to your home water supply system to provide water to the refrigerator as needed. If your GE refrigerator is leaking on the floor in front of the appliance, the wiring may be loose or damaged.
To check the water pipe, remove the kick plate at the bottom of the refrigerator. Make sure that the pipeline is firmly installed in the inlet valve and tighten it if necessary. If the water pipe has holes or tears, the water pipe must be replaced by a professional to prevent leakage.
2-Leaking water filter
Water filter problems are some of the most common causes of water leaks in GE refrigerators. The filter filters out contaminants in the household water supply before they reach the water dispenser and/or ice maker. If you find that your GE refrigerator is leaking from the water dispenser or filter housing, it may be a filter problem.
The following filter problems may cause the refrigerator to leak:
Filter clogged: Over time, the filter may become clogged with contaminants, causing leakage. Replace the filter every 6 months to prevent clogging. If the ice cubes do not taste good or the dispensed water smells bad, you may need to replace it more frequently.
Improper installation: Incorrect installation of the filter can cause internal leakage of the filter housing. Please refer to your user manual for the correct installation instructions for the model refrigerator.
Damaged filter: Check the filter for signs of damage, such as cracks in the filter head or missing O-rings. The damaged filter must be replaced.
Wrong filter installed: In order to install and function correctly, GE recommends using an OEM filter every time it is replaced. The universal filter may not fit or work properly, resulting in leakage.
3-Water inlet valve is leaking
The water inlet valve of the refrigerator opens and closes as needed, allowing water to flow from your home water supply system through the water pipe. If the component is damaged or malfunctions, the valve may leak, causing the refrigerator to drip on the floor behind the refrigerator.
To check the water inlet valve, turn off the refrigerator and move it away from the wall. The valve can be accessed by removing the rear panel of the refrigerator. If the valve has cracks or holes, or fails to pass the multimeter test due to lack of continuity, it needs to be professionally replaced.
4-GE refrigerator defrost drain pipe is blocked
The defrost drain pipe transports all residual water in the refrigerator defrost system to the drain pan under the refrigerator. It usually runs behind the rear inner wall of the refrigerator and enters the freezer compartment. Given this location, lingering water droplets can freeze in the drain pipe and cause a blockage, which can lead to leakage. If you find that your GE refrigerator is leaking in the freezer under the bottom basket, the defrost drain may be blocked.
This is how to unblock the defrost drain pipe of GE refrigerator
Mix 2 cups of hot tap water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda.
Empty the refrigerator and find the drain pipe in the center of the back wall. On some models, you may need to unscrew the freezer rear panel to access the drain pipe.
Use the turkey applicator to rinse the drain with the solution.
The sound of water flowing into the drain pan indicates that the blockage has been removed.
5-Water from the drain pan
If you still find that your GE refrigerator is leaking, the drain pan may be the source of water. This dish collects the remaining water from the refrigerator's defrosting system and eventually evaporates. However, if the pan has holes or cracks, the water may leak from the bottom of the refrigerator before it evaporates.
Most drain pans can be accessed by moving the refrigerator away from the wall and removing its rear panel. If the drain pan is damaged, it should be replaced. However, if the drain pan is not damaged and your refrigerator cannot cool down properly, a failure in the defrosting system may cause leakage and cooling problems. In this case, the refrigerator should be professionally evaluated.
