Few games have been eagerly expected in 2021 than New World - the new MMORPG from Amazon Games. After the final beta phase, there was finally no more postponement. On September 28th, the servers went online - and almost collapsed under the load of the players. Many players who are increasingly disappointed by competitors such as WoW, place their hopes in New World. We plunged into the world of Aeternum directly for the release and tell you what the MMORPG has to offer - or whether it will be the next fiasco from Amazon Games.
The world of Aeternum is divided into three different factions and eleven different areas. The alliance, the marauders and the syndicate can bring individual areas under their rule by attacking the currently dominant faction with the help of their members, i.e. you, and conquered the fort in the respective area. To keep it fair, this is only possible at certain times of the day and will be announced in advance. Then the PvP-enthusiastic Aeternums players meet for large and, to the untrained eye, extremely chaotic battles around the fort.
Belonging to the ruling faction gives you a whole range of bonuses. From lower taxes on trading to more collected resources or access to special stores for your stuff - the list is long. So it's nice to be one of the winners. But so that not all players are suddenly in a faction, the bonuses that you get when you attack and defeat an enemy faction are not small either. So that there is no imbalance, you can change the faction every 120 days for free.
Somewhat smaller communities are then called companies. They correspond to guilds in other games and are the actual rulers of an area. The company that has seized the respective area is allowed to set various taxes and benefits from further bonuses. It also decides which improvements should be made in the area.
Anyone who likes strategic PvP and big battles will get their money's worth in New World. There are few major MMOs where PvP between different factions is so well thought out. The biggest problem is likely to be that only a few players can take part in the elite wars between the ruling companies, as companies are limited to a maximum of 50 players. But there is also the outpost storm, a kind of instanced battlefield, for which you can register and in which two teams of 20 players each fight for three outposts on an island. By the way, the servers in New World don't go to their knees as in other MMOs as soon as more than two dozen players fight each other in one place. And there will be no phasing either. You will get to know your enemies quite well in the course of the game, as you will come across the same players and companies over and over again.
