Scooters Company's Electric Scooter Regulations
Regulations surrounding e-scooters are still evolving. You must understand them before investing. We'll share some of them that are enforced around the world.
United States: Many states enforce their regulations. Commuters can ride within the 20 mph speed limit, with a maximum power of 750 watts. The minimum age is 16 and riders must wear a helmet. Some cities have banned their use. Most people won't accept them on high-speed streets.
Canada: In general, the minimum age limit is 18, the maximum allowed speed is limited to 32 km/h, and the power is limited to 500 watts. Some states require a driver's license, others do not. Whether you can ride an e-scooter on private property or on public roads varies by province.
Germany: The minimum age for a rider is 14. Electric scooters need to get an ABE from the authorities in order to get insurance and drive it accordingly. The ABE requires e-scooters to operate at a maximum speed of 1500 watts within the 20 km/h speed limit. It should also have a steering stem, brakes, horn and front and rear lights. The scooter should display the manufacturer's name, the scooter model and the ABE itself on the scooter.
UK: Currently, you can only ride e-scooters on private land with prior permission from the landowner. Violations can result in a user fine of £300. The government has allowed scooter trials in a few places to measure safety. Those interested in participating in the rental scooter will need a driver's license and will only be able to drive within the 15.5 mph speed limit.
France: The minimum age is 12, cycling on country roads is not allowed, and there will be a €135 fine on sidewalks for non-compliance. The maximum speed limit is 25 km/h, with a fine of 1,500 euros. Encourage the use of vehicles on bike lanes.
Spain: Although classified as a vehicle, e-scooters are not allowed on highways, tunnels and sidewalks. The maximum speed limit is 25 km/h. Riders should wear reflective vests and obtain a certificate of circulation from the manufacturer.
Belgium: They can be driven on public roads, but only without a permit as long as the rider stays within the 25km/h speed limit. To exceed the speed limit, users need a driver's license, license plate and insurance. They also need to wear a helmet while riding.
Denmark: The minimum age is 15. Top speed is limited to 20 km/h. Users can enjoy riding on the bike path.
Sweden: The youngest driver allowed in these vehicles is 15 years old. The maximum speed limit is 20 km/h and the maximum power is 250 watts.
