Types of Insulation Gasket Kits
There are four main types of gasket isolation kits, designated F, E, D, and O. Each type of Insulation Gasket Kits is suitable for flanges with specific faces (RF, FF, RTJ).
"F" type Insulation Gasket Kits (ring gasket)
F-type isolation washers (ring type) are suitable for raised face flanges (RF). The outer diameter of the F-type gasket is smaller than the flange surface.
A special strip protector can be added to the flange joint to further strengthen the cathodic isolation produced by the flange isolation kit (otherwise foreign matter may accumulate).
The F-type gasket is made of a 1/8" thick fabric-based phenolic plate, uncoated or coated with nitrile rubber on both sides. The F-type gasket can also be used for non-asbestos fibers with high isolation.
"E" Type Insulation Gasket Kits (full face)
The outer diameter of the "E" type gasket (full type) matches the flange diameter, that is, they cover the entire flange surface area.
This design helps keep foreign objects out of the flange joints and enhances the isolation performance of the kit. The E-type flange insulation kit is made of phenolic, neoprene-faced phenolic, and high-temperature materials.
"D" Type Insulation Gasket Kits (API ring joint gasket)
"D" type isolating gaskets are suitable for flanges with ring joint faces because they are suitable for the ring joint grooves of RTJ flanges (R, RX, and BX types). Type D washers are available in phenolic grade. This type of gasket is also called "API ring joint".
"O" type flange insulation kit
O-rings have an additional sealing element on both sides of the device, usually PTFE, nitrile rubber, or fluoroelastomer, and are available in ring-shaped and full-scale designs (Type E and Type F). O-rings are made of phenolic and G-10 materials.
The material of the insulating sleeve is polyethylene or phenolic resin by default.
