UK-SPEC stands for the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence and Commitment. It explains the needs that you must fulfill to get yourself registered as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Engineering Technician (EngTech), or Incorporated Engineer (IEng). UK-SPEC also includes examples of those activities that show the necessary competence and commitment.

What is expected from a Chartered Engineer as per UK-SPEC?
A Chartered Engineer (CEng) develops solutions to engineering problems using new and existing technologies, by innovation, creativity, and change, and/or they may have technical accountability for complex systems with high levels of risk.

Anyone can attain the title of CEng providing that they need to demonstrate the necessary professional competency and commitment, as given in the professional standard UK-SPEC. You can develop both of these two things by means of educational and work experience.
The UK-SPEC Chartered Engineer application process for registration is more straightforward for those having exemplifying academic qualifications. For the CEng title, it is one of the following:

If you earned academic qualifications that, when you gained them, were accredited as the exemplifying qualifications for CEng, these are still considered to be so.
An applicant having the exemplifying qualifications is automatically eligible for Interim registration.
