Installation of Spiral Wound Gaskets
Disclaimer: The following list is just a basic overview and should not be considered as formal advice or instructions. Please consult your Spiral Wound Gaskets manufacturer.
When installing the gasket on the new flange or replacing the old flange, the flange surface should be clean and free of indentations and scratches. Cross-surface scratches are a major problem because they can cause joint leakage.
When there are scratches, portable machine tools (such as the Mirage flange facing the machine) can be used to machine the flange surface.
The manufacturer of Spiral Wound Gaskets recommends a surface finish between 3.2 µ and 6.3 µ. A surface comparator is a useful tool for checking the finish.
The flange faces should be parallel and concentric, so there is no need to pull them in place under excessive bolt loads.
Spiral Wound Gaskets must not be reused. Always use new ones.
Before installation, check the gasket for damage and meet the required correct specifications.
No cement or lubricant should be used.
After installation, check whether the flange faces are parallel. This can be done using a flange gap measurement tool.
Gland Packing is also our product, welcome to consult and purchase.
